On November 11, 12, and 13th a group of paramedic instructors from Manhattan Beach California came to Santa Rosalia and conducted a three day safety class.

Manhattan Beach, California is Santa Rosalia’s sister city.

These firefighters gave fire technique classes to the Volunteer Fire, Cruz Roja Fire Department, and the Santa Rosalia City Police Department.

I am also a patronato to the Santa Rosalia Fire Department and was invited to the simulation training that was given on Saturday November 13, 2004.

The instructors graded the performance of these Public Safety Departments.

The simulation included 2 vehicles that overturned, victims trapped inside, and a man thrown from one of the vehicles.

Later the vehicles exploded in a gasoline fire.

The police arrived first, the ambulance service and the fire department followed directly after.

The groups worked together rapidly, calmly, and professionally.

I talked to the trainer, Tim O’Brien, after the simulation and asked his opinion of the event.

He commented, that everyone did what was expected of them and worked so perfectly together that he was impressed.

He noted that these departments have little equipment to work with and was amazed how well they can put together their limited resources to make this simulation very successful.

O’Brien also stated that the local units have improved their procedures immensely since the last classes given a year ago.

This paramedic group from Manhattan Beach California hopes to come back twice a year for additional refresher training for the rescue departments in Santa Rosalia.

Our hats are off to these guys from Manhattan Beach for their volunteer efforts to help the people of Santa Rosalia become more efficient with life saving services here in Mexico.
